How the AI works

What the assistant is, what it is not, and where a human is still required.

It is an AI, and it sounds like a person

When you call a business that uses VoiceSync, the voice that answers is a computer program. It speaks naturally, understands interruptions, and holds a normal conversation. We say so plainly here because it is not always obvious on the call.

The assistant tells callers it is an AI at the end of the conversation, and the business is required to publish a notice telling customers in advance that its line is answered this way.

Calls are written down

What is said on the call — by the caller and by the assistant — is converted to text and stored so the business can see what was agreed. The audio itself is not kept.

If you would rather not be handled this way, ask for a human or a callback and the business will follow up.

What it will not do

  • It does not give medical, dental, legal or financial advice, and is configured to decline and hand off.
  • It does not handle emergencies. If a caller may be at risk it directs them to seek immediate help and ends the call.
  • It does not make outbound marketing calls.
  • It does not use conversations to train AI models.

It gets things wrong

Speech recognition and language models make mistakes, and accents, noise and crossed lines all make it worse. A booking may be misheard or missed. Businesses are told to check their dashboard rather than assume every call landed correctly, and callers should confirm anything important.
